Jessica Gethin announced Orchestra Victoria’s Artistic Advisor

Orchestra Victoria has announced the appointment of Jessica Gethin to the role of Artistic Advisor, the orchestra’s lead artistic role.

Gethin will work with orchestral management in relation to musician recruitment and performance, collaborate with key artistic personnel from Orchestra Victoria’s performance partners, as well as offer expert guidance to uphold performance standards as a pit orchestra for performance partners including Opera Australia (OA) and The Australian Ballet (TAB).

Gethin brings a wealth of experience to the role, and currently holds the positions of Principal Conductor of the West Australian Ballet and Head of Orchestral Studies and Conducting at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA). She was Founding Chief Conductor of the Perth Symphony Orchestra until 2019 and remains the Ambassador for its Women on the Podium conducting initiative.

Jessica Inducted into the WA Women’s Hall of Fame 2024

The WA Women’s Hall of Fame was first established in 2011 in recognition of the Centenary of International Women’s Day held annually on 8th March. It’s purpose is to recognise and celebrate the achievements of Western Australian women past, present and future.

Since the launch, inspiring Western Australian women from all regions in this State, and from diverse educational, organisational, and cultural backgrounds who have left their mark in our communities have been acknowledged through the WA Women’s Hall of Fame annual ceremony. Their achievements have encompassed business, growing industries, leading movements, mentoring, building communities, fund-raising, working in science and research, the arts, child-care, volunteering, and providing positive role-models and encouragement to the young women of our future have been recognised.

Jessica Gethin Appointed Principal Conductor of WA Ballet

Jessica Gethin has been appointed to the position of Principal Conductor of West Australian Ballet.

Artistic Director Aurélien Scannella said the appointment signals the company’s continued commitment to excellence and artistic integrity.

“It represents a significant development for the company and celebrates our close relationship with Jessica, who has proved herself as one of the most exciting and well-respected conductors in our region.”

“Jessica has played a big part in our recent successes, becoming an integral member of the West Australian Ballet family,” he added.

Jessica Gethin appointed WAAPA’s Head of Orchestral Studies and Conducting

WAAPA Latest News – Friday, 02 December 2022

As Head of Orchestral Studies and Conducting at WAAPA, Jessica Gethin will direct WAAPA’s vibrant orchestral program, and inspire and mentor students by providing them with the skills, training and experience they need to create full-time careers in music.

The WAAPA Symphony Orchestra is ECU’s flagship instrumental ensemble, performing an exciting range of orchestral repertoire from Baroque masterworks through to Romantic symphonies, new commissions, concertos, music theatre, opera and ballet. The orchestra provides an invaluable springboard into the music profession for WAAPA’s classical instrumental students.

 

“I’m thrilled to be joining WAAPA in 2023 in this brand-new position,” says Jessica. “I am excited to bring my global performance experience to the students, further elevating the orchestral program to unite, excite and shape the future of music makers in Western Australia.
